One good thing always leads to another. But unfortunately you have to be a music nut to catch the good stuff these days. Five-piece New Young Pony Club is a UK-based indie/electro collective signed to Modular Records. Just when Nu-rave (colourful, `80s influenced electronica) was starting to get tired, NYPC, who have been around since 2004, tone it down quite a bit bringing it back to the days of new wave, when artist’s like New Order, and Yazoo were about synth simplicity - music that you could actually jam to. Check out the video to one of their hottest tracks “The Bomb” Below.
This joint was floating around the net for free so I thought I’d take a listen. I haven’t checked for C.L. of the legendary duo Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth in years though I heard he was still recording. T.R.O.Y. (They Reminisce Over You) is a classic we still pay homage to for our obituaries, but I think it’s important to not get stuck in the past and trap our favorite artists in bubbles of their own golden eras. What can I tell you? 2 rap gems back to back for me. It’s almost like I love rap again. Oh what feeling- no it’s more than a feeling, but those aren’t the songs C.L. sampled for this gem. Instead it’s LTD’s “Love Song” in an almost distracting sample that’s feels good to hear again since I liked the original.
The phrase “dripped in champagne” alone sounds great. Wordsmith that he is, C.L. is as smooth as ever with lyrics dripped in aurally pleasing words. Any other rapper words have turned this into some obvious, schmaltzy “for the ladies” track a la Sheek Louch or almost anything Fabolous is famous for. Another rapper would have been completely overpowered by Jeffery Osbourne’s voice, but not C.L. Smooth. When you listen you insist on hearing C.L. Smooth and seek out his voice. Hell, another blogger would have begged for Pete Rock production again, but not I. Too much sample, not enough C.L. Smooth, yet he handles it well. I am sufficiently interested in C.L. Smooth’s new project, whatever that is.
This battle of the blonde pop tarts has been either in the works or ongoing for quite some time now. In the late 90s a slew of these blonde chipettes and mouseketeers hit the scene in a dizzy flash of peroxide, bright colors and lip gloss. It was getting harder and harder to tell them apart. Christina became the dirty one with the voice and Jessica became the clean one with the tuna fish. I guess she’s known for her body, her beauty and something like a voice. I lean towards the one my sister used to call Christina Agriculture. As far far as singers go, I don’t know, I like one with a voice. Call me crazy. Ms. Simpson has never made me feel anything with her voice even when she goes country.
Ah, you looked. We knew there were some eco-friendly freaks of-the-week here. Wait a second though before you grab your wheatgrass scented baby oil balm and organic cotton towels, because this here smut ain’t your regular kind of smut. It’s green smut. And since ET and the gang have yet to phone home, I’m sure you know that green smut isn’t of the humanoid variety.
Isabella Rossellini has made a series of short films about the mating habits of insects. Don’t sigh, they’re just as freaky as you are. They love the same positions you do too, just with more legs. Had they happened across some human porn on an insect blog, they’d be getting it in right now. So check out some of these very interesting shorts by clicking the link below.

M.I.A. gets her Paula Abdul on with Tony. Opposites attract.
Yeah, that’s what some people are saying. Now initially when I heard this I dismissed it on its face, but a Google search revealed there may be some real concern about this out there. Here I was kind of happy for M.I.A. getting some well deserved attention for “Paper Planes” which we put up at the dawn of this blog now that it’s on the Pineapple Express movie soundtrack, commercial and trailer. According to Billboard.comRihanna and Katy Perry are duking it out for the top of the chart while M.I.A. “jumps from No. 16 to a career-best No. 5 as the chart’s top digital gainer. The track… sold more than 136,000 downloads.”
With a suspiciously frequently appearing post title Eonline posted this: M.I.A.: “Paper Planes” on a Tear, but Terror? with a question from someone asking I really like that M.I.A. single “Paper Planes.” But I hear she supports terror. Is that true? Is she a terrorist?Continue reading »
Jazz legend Miles Davis is in rare form on this classic recording of his now famous “Blue in Green” off of his “Kind of Blue” album. The artist in me just proof-read the above and envisioned a hella-rich turquoise, C’est la vie. This has nothing to do with that turquoise though, and everything to do with the genius composer’s fluid trumpet playing here. There’s so much about the man that both me and wikipedia could tell you, but I’d rather the music speak to you first. Snuggle in and be embraced by the warmth of his sound.
Pip Brown came from a musical family in Wellington, joined some cats and made a band that went bust. Ladyhawke is pretty much her solo project which is riding off the success of the recent “Paris Is Burning”, performances with Peaches, and a “your favorite rock/ pop chicks from the 80’s” sound. Check out her latest “Dusk Till Dawn” below.
